CyberSafe

An initiative of FCORD, MHA, Government of India

About Cyber Safe

CyberSafe is an initiative of the Ministry of Home Affairs designed to combat digital frauds, including those involving UPI, IMPS, AEPS, digital wallets, debit/credit cards and more. With the increasing incidents of phone fraud in the country, it is essential to take a considered response to protect unsuspecting citizens from losing their hard-earned money under the pretext of various social engineering techniques like impersonation, fake buyers/sellers, used by fraudsters.

Since the launch of CyberSafe in August 2019, Airtel Payments Bank has been closely associated with it and continue to be its technology partner. The centralised application links over thousands of users of Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) across the country with fintech entities, banks including Airtel Payments Bank online to respond to their investigation queries on real-time basis. The application also provides a central repository of fraudsters, which is updated automatically with each incident reported by LEAs, including mobile, account number and UPI IDs. This repository is accessible to all member entities who use it to put necessary controls in place. General public can also search any suspected mobile number, account number or UPI ID by visiting  www.cybersafe.gov.in.

Our comprehensive system has greatly assisted in countering financial fraudsters in UPI, IMPS, and card-based domains in India, thereby enhancing trust among consumers of digital transactions. We believe that this exercise is a crucial component in achieving the government's vision of increasing the pace of adoption of Digital India, thereby enhancing the faith of the common man in the platform.

Vision

Digital India is a flagship program initiated by the Government of India in 2015 with a vision to transform the nation into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy.

The program focuses on providing citizens with access to digital infrastructure and services, promoting digital literacy, and facilitating the adoption of digital technologies across various sectors.

One of the key areas of focus under Digital India is the promotion of digital payments. The adoption of digital payment modes in India has seen significant growth over the past few years, driven by factors such as affordable smartphones, widespread internet connectivity, and the government's push towards a cashless economy.
