FAQs – Airtel Life Insurance Cover Plan
1.) What are the benefits of Airtel Life insurance recharges?
Airtel is offering Life Insurance benefit on two recharges.
Rs.279 recharge:
- Validity 28 days
- Rs 4 Lacs term life insurance from HDFC Life
- Unlimited National Calls i.e. Local, STD and Roaming Calls
- 1.5GB data per day
- 100 SMS per Day
Rs.179 recharge:
- Validity 28 days
- Rs 2 Lacs term life insurance from Bharti AXA Life
- Unlimited National Calls i.e. Local, STD and Roaming Calls
- 2GB Data
- 300 SMS
Once you recharge your number, you will receive the policy activation SMS. Life Insurance policy will be generated on the registered name of the customer. Subsequently, you can fill in your address and nominee details on Airtel Thanks App or get them filled by any Airtel Retailer near you.
Important points:
- Policy will be generated for the registered SIM card holder ONLY and the name cannot be changed
- The customer needs to be between 18 to 54 years of age
- No medical tests are required
- No requirement of any paper work
- Physical copy of the policy would be delivered to your home only if you update your address on Airtel Thanks app or get it updated by any Retailer near you
- You can update your nominee on Airtel Thanks app or get it updated by any Retailer near you.
2.) How can I activate & receive a copy of life insurance?
It’s a simple 2 step process to activate & receive a copy of the life insurance:
Step 1: Recharge with Airtel Life insurance Plan worth Rs.279 or Rs.179; your policy will get automatically generated as per the below conditions:
- Policy will be generated for the Registered SIM card holder ONLY and the name cannot be changed
- The customer needs to be between 18 to 54 years of age
Step 2: Update address and nominee details on Airtel Thanks App or visit a nearest Airtel retailer for physical copy of insurance.
3.) I have recharged with Rs.279/Rs.179 but my policy is not activated yet? I want to know the status
Your life insurance policy will not be generated in the following cases:
- Your age is not in the eligible bracket of 18 to 54 years
- If the registered name in Airtel System has special characters. Policy would be generated only for registered SIM card holder, so we cannot generate a policy for you if the registered name is invalid.
- Your Airtel prepaid plan and life insurance policy will only get activated post expiry of your current recharge.
4.) Do I need to submit any proofs/documents to get the life insurance policy?
No documentation is required for generating your life insurance policy. As long as you fulfil the eligibility criteria, your policy will get generated automatically.
Please note, the life insurance once active, only covers the registered SIM card holder.
5.) Do I have to be of certain age to get the life insurance policy?
Life insurance cover can be claimed only if you are between 18 to 54 years of age.
6.) Who is a "nominee"?
Nominee is a person who would get the insurance cover amount in case of insured person’s death. Your nominee can be your Brother, Daughter, Father, Father-in-law, Grand Father, Grand Mother, Grand Son, Husband, Mother, Mother-in-law, Nephew, Niece, Sister, Son or Wife.
7.) What happens if I don't fill the nominee details?
In case of insured person’s death, claim will only be given to the nominee or legal heir of the person. For this you need to follow standard process laid out by insurance company. Hence, it is always advisable to fill in the nominee details at the time of registration itself. You can fill in nominee details on Airtel Thanks App or visit any Airtel retailer near you.
8.) What happens if my nominee is less than 18 years of age?
Insurance claim cannot be given to nominee less than 18 years of age.
9.) What if I want to assign nominee out of family relation?
Nominee can only be selected from your relations, like Your Brother, Daughter, Father, Father-in-law, Grand Father, Grand Mother, Grand Son, Husband, Mother, Mother-in-law, Nephew, Niece, Sister, Son or Wife.
10.) Why do you need my address details? / How can I get the physical copy of my policy?
Address is required to courier the Policy documents to you. If you do not provide your address, the physical copy of the Policy will not be delivered to you. You can fill in your address details on Airtel Thanks App or visit any Airtel retailer near you. However, physical copy of the insurance does not have any impact on the claim and your policy number is enough to process the claims.
11.) Can I fill my nominee / address details later?
Yes, nominee details / address can be updated even after pack activation. There are 2 ways to do this:
- Update the details through Airtel Thanks App or
- You can visit the nearest Airtel Retailer
12.) How can I check my courier address?
You can check your courier address in Airtel Thanks App. You can also go to the nearest Airtel retailer to confirm the same.
13.) How can I change my nominee details?
There are 2 ways to update nominee details:
- You can update the details through Airtel Thanks App or
- You can visit the nearest Airtel Retailer
14.) I am unable to find my policy details. How can I get it again?
You can visit Airtel Thanks App to get the policy details and then download the copy of the insurance policy. You would have also received the policy details on SMS. Alternatively, you can contact your Life Insurance Partner.

15.) Is Airtel my insurance partner/agent?
No, Airtel is just the facilitator and is providing your life insurance through HDFC Life/ Bharti AXA Life. This insurance policy is directly between you and the insurance partner. For any queries, you can directly reach out to your insurer on the following numbers –

16.) My policy is not in the correct name. How can I change it?
The policy will only be generated on the name of the registered SIM-card holder as updated in our records. In case the name is different, you will have to take another SIM in your name to enjoy Life Insurance coverage.
17.) I have recharged with Rs.279/Rs.179 but I am not eligible for insurance. What should I do?
This Life Insurance benefit is with Airtel recharge of Rs.279/Rs.179. With these recharges you also enjoy telecom benefits (unlimited calls & 1.5GB/day for Rs.279; unlimited calls & 2GB data for Rs.179) as per validity of your pack. Since you are not eligible for the insurance the policy can’t be generated for you, but you can enjoy the other benefits of the pack.
18.) Who is responsible for claim process?
The claims and all other queries regarding insurance would be handled by your insurance partner. You need to visit a branch office of the insurance partner and initiate the claim process by mentioning your Policy Number. 19.) How can I check my Policy Number?

20.) What if my next recharge is of different pack value, will the insurance still be active?
Airtel offers Life Insurance only on two recharges, Rs.279 (4 Lakh HDFC Life Insurance) & Rs.179 (2 Lakh Bharti AXA Life Insurance). If you recharge with any other pack your Life Insurance policy would lapse. You can restart your policy by recharging again with Rs.279 or Rs.179.
21.) I have shared my address but have still not received the physical copy of my insurance. How can I get?

22.) After giving address details, within how many days will I receive the physical copy?

25.) I have lost my Policy Document, what can I do?
Absence of physical copy of insurance will not impact your claim process. Your policy number is enough to process the claims. However, you can still download the insurance policy from Airtel Thanks App, if required. For any queries regarding the policy document, you can directly reach out to your insurer.

26.) Will I get a physical copy of insurance every month?
Physical copy of insurance will be delivered only once and is valid for full year as long as you continuously recharge with the same insurance pack (Airtel’s Rs.279 or Rs.179 pack). After 1 year, you will again get a new copy of the insurance.
27.) I have not received Policy renewal SMS?

28.) My Policy activation date is incorrect?
Policy activation date will be the date on which your Airtel Rs.279 or Airtel Rs.179 pack benefits get activated.

31.) Can I take multiple policies with multiple recharges? I have multiple SIM cards registered on my name. Can I take insurance on all?
As per policy, life insurance partners will service your claims for 1 insurance policy only. Since, this is a policy, your claims would be limited to Rs 4 Lacs only for Rs 279 recharge or limited to Rs 2 Lacs for Rs 179 recharge.
32.) What will happen if I recharge with Airtel Life Insurance Recharge (Rs.279 pack or Rs.179 pack), while validity of my current recharge in still pending?
Your Airtel Life Insurance plan (Rs.279 pack or Rs.179 pack) and life insurance policy will only get activated post expiry of your current recharge.
33.) Is there any specific eligibility criteria to get the insurance policy?
In order to be eligible for the life insurance,
- you need to be between 18 to 54 years of age
- the SIM card/mobile number should be in your name as per our records
34.) I want to cancel my Policy and want a refund?
Your policy is valid only till the pack validity of Rs.279 or Rs.179. Since it is a benefit given along with recharge, it is not possible to provide any refund for the Life Insurance policy.
35.) Do I need to enter address/nominee details again for insurance Rs.279 or Rs.179 pack if I have already availed the cover once?
No, you are not required to enter Nominee & Address details again if the next recharge is done within 3 months.
36.) I had last recharged with Rs. 279/Rs.179 plan 8 months ago? Now If I recharge again with the same amount, do I have to enter my address/nominee details again?
Yes, you are required to re-enter details if lapse date (end date of last Airtel Life Insurance recharge) is more than 3 months.
37.) Is there a long validity (84 days) variant available for this recharge?
Currently, there is no long validity variant available.
38.) What is the validity of my insurance, and what premium do I need to pay every month?
Your insurance is valid only until the validity of your Rs.279 or Rs.179 recharge i.e. 28 days. As soon as your pack validity ends, your insurance also ends. You do not need to pay any extra premium. Just recharge with Airtel Rs.279 or Rs.179 pack every month to continue your insurance.
39.) What proof will I get that my insurance policy has been generated?
You shall receive the following proofs for your insurance policy:
- You can manage and view your policy in your Airtel Thanks App.
- You shall receive a COI (Certificate of Insurance) on SMS from your insurer (HDFC Life for Rs 279 recharge and Bharti AXA Life for Rs 179 recharge) with a link to view/download Insurance Policy.
- You can update your address and nominee details through the Airtel Thanks App or with any Airtel retailer to receive a physical copy of your policy. For any further queries, you can directly reach out to your insurer:

40.) Is there a way to continue my insurance without recharging my Airtel SIM with Rs.279 or Rs.179 pack?
No, you need to recharge your Airtel SIM with Rs.279 or Rs.179 every 28 days in order to continuously avail your Life Insurance. Your insurance policy is valid only till the validity of Rs.279 or Rs.179 recharge i.e. 28 days. If you do not recharge with one of the above packs, your insurance policy shall lapse.
41.) Will my Policy number change in case I do Rs.179 recharge after doing Rs.279 recharge? Where can I see my new policy number?
Your policy number or certificate of insurance number changes with every recharge. You will receive the policy details on SMS after every recharge. You can also view or manage your policy anytime on Airtel Thanks App or at the nearest Airtel retail outlet.
