How to enable screen rotation on your phone?

The most common reason your Android phone’s screen does not rotate automatically is that the auto-rotation option is turned off. When you enable the function, your phone will automatically rotate all your on-screen content. On practically all Android phones, you can enable the feature by pushing down twice from the top of the screen and selecting ‘Auto Rotate’.

After you enable the option, open an app on your phone, and your screen will rotate. Continue reading for more solutions if the auto-rotate toggle was previously activated.

Rotate the Home Screen of Your Phone

Even if you select the auto-rotation option, most Android phones will not rotate the home screen by default. To overcome this, activate the home screen rotation option, and the screen will rotate as well. The methods for this may differ based on your phone type, covering both Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones as examples.

The Samsung Galaxy

First, open the Settings app on your Samsung Galaxy phone to allow home screen rotation. Go to Settings and select ‘Home Screen.’

Turn on the ‘Rotate to Landscape Mode’ option on the “Home Screen” tab.

That’s all there is to it. Return to your home screen, turn your phone sideways, and the screen will switch to landscape mode.

To rotate your phone’s always-on screen, go to Settings > Lock Screen > Always On Display > Screen Orientation and select ‘Landscape’.

Pixel by Google

Though you cannot rotate the Pixel’s always-on display, you can rotate the home screen. Touch and hold the home screen until the Settings menu displays, then touch ‘Home Settings’.

Scroll down until you find the option for ‘Allow Home Screen Rotation’, then press it to turn it on.

Check that you are not touching the screen of your phone.

If you have enabled all rotation settings and your phone’s screen still isn’t moving, ensure you are not touching it when rotating it. Remember that when you place your finger on the screen, it locks the orientation.

Simply make sure your fingertips are not touching your screen when turning it to avoid this. You should exercise caution at the corners of your screen since it is simple to unintentionally touch the screen there.

Remove the Case from Your Phone

If you have a case on your phone and screen rotation is not working, it’s possible that the case isn’t compatible with your model or is damaged. As a result, the case may touch areas of the screen, preventing the screen from rotating.

To confirm this, remove your phone’s cover and turn it sideways. If the screen rotates, it is because of your case. You may either attempt to repair your case or purchase a new suitable one.

Reboot Your Phone

A small flaw in Android can occasionally cause system functionalities to fail. Fortunately, many minor system issues may be resolved by just restarting your phone. This restarts your phone, which may resolve your screen rotation issue.

Press and hold the Power button for a few seconds to restart most Android phones. Then, in the resulting power menu, select ‘Restart’.

When your phone restarts, tilt it sideways and the screen will spin.

Touchscreen Calibration for Your Phone

Your phone’s touchscreen may detect taps even when you aren’t touching it. This may block your phone from rotating the screen since it believes you have placed your finger on it and the phone locks the screen from being turned.

To resolve this issue, use free software to calibrate your phone’s touchscreen. It will tell you which areas of the screen are sensitive to touch, highlighting possible issues. The program may then be used to calibrate your screen.

Uninstall any recently installed apps

If your phone’s screen stops spinning after installing a certain app, that app may be interfering with your phone’s functionality. In this scenario, uninstall the app from your phone and check to see if the problem persists.

On Android, deleting an app or numerous applications is simple. After that, check to see if your phone’s screen turns. If it happens, avoid reinstalling the software you just uninstalled and perhaps hunt for another app that does the same or comparable functions.

If you are still unable to rotate your screen after attempting these methods, it is time to get a new Android phone.

When you want your phone’s display to adapt to your viewing angle, enable the auto-rotate option. For example, if you’re reading an e-book or viewing a video, turning your smartphone to landscape mode will give you a better view.
