Guide on Spam Call Blocking Feature – Airtel Thanks app

Did you know that scammers and unwanted callers can use the internet to get your personal phone numbers?! They can use your mobile numbers to call you every day and try to push a service you don’t wish to buy. Or they can even be fake calls asking about your financial data to scam you.

Many scammers pose as bank officials and ask for the OTP sent to your number in lieu of activating your account or citing verification purposes. Later, they use the OTP to illegally transfer funds from your account to theirs. This is just one example of phone call-related scams.

Therefore, it is important to label these numbers and block them beforehand, to avoid such scams. A call blocking and call labeling app can help you with the same.

You can also use the feature to generally block incoming calls from unwanted calls (other than spam) from the app. The call blocking feature falls under the Call Manager feature of the Airtel Thanks app. Missed Call Alerts feature is also a part of the Call Manager.

What are call blocking and call labeling features?

Users can block numbers from their cell phones themselves. However, they can’t report them as spam or scams. A call-blocking app can help you with the same. Call blocking basically refers to a technology that can help you to stop unwanted calls before these calls reach you. The Call labeling feature is a step ahead of call blocking. Thanks to this feature, you can even mark or label a number as ‘spam’ or ‘scam’ on the app. This will help you and others to avoid such calls.

The Airtel Thanks newly launched call block feature along with the call labeling feature can be used by all Airtel mobility users to screen their calls and block, report unwanted/scam callers. The call block option is available on the Airtel Thanks app. Let’s look at its features in detail.

When to use Call Block feature on the Airtel Thanks app

The call blocking feature is the newest addition to the Airtel Thanks app. It has the following features:

Block unwanted callers

You can head to the app to view your recent calls and block a certain number right from the app. Moving forward, you won’t get these calls on your phone. They will be blocked, and you won’t see a call notification on your phone.

Report spam

If you have received calls quite a few times from the same phone number, you can report the number as spam number from the app itself. Even if you do receive the call, it will be labeled as spam. This will help you to avoid spam calls.

Report scam

You can also label calls as scams if you realized the caller was trying to scam you or your family members.

The best part of the call block feature is that it will be used by us as a network provider to map spam callers and become a spam-free network. Wondering how that works? Let us elaborate.

Calls that are blocked by users like you won’t be served via our Airtel network. We will study the blocking pattern for given phone numbers (numbers that are blocked by multiple users from the app) and use the data to identify the spam callers. Once we identify these spammers, we will eliminate them from our network. This activity will be continuous in nature and will help us make Airtel a spam-free network.

Missed Call Alerts

The MCA or Missed Call Alerts feature in this recharge app helps users to keep a track of their missed calls easily. Users are notified about all the calls they miss when they are not latched on to an active network. Moreover, users will also be notified if the caller they were trying to reach is back in the network zone.

The feature can be activated from the home page of the app. It will help you to never miss an important call. If users have already activated the feature using the USSD code, they won’t have to activate the same from the app.
