Make UPI payments through Credit Cards

Whenever you make any UPI transaction, the amount is usually debited from your savings account or any account that is linked to your UPI. In most cases, these are normal bank accounts with debit cards. But what if you could make UPI payments with a credit card as well? Yes, you read that correct.

Here’s a blog explaining how making UPI payments with credit cards work.

Can I Use Credit Card for UPI Payment?

Yes, it is now possible to use a credit card for UPI payments. This was introduced to broaden the scope of UPI and incorporate more flexibility in the digital payments ecosystem. However, this feature is currently limited to a few card networks and banks. Therefore, it’s essential to check whether your credit card issuer supports UPI payments.

How to Link Credit Card to UPI

Linking a credit card to UPI is a straightforward process, similar to adding a bank account. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Open Your UPI App: Launch the UPI app you use, such as Airtel Thanks App, or any other that supports this feature.
  2. Go to ‘Add Payment Method’: In the app, navigate to the section where you can add new payment methods. This is typically found in the ‘Bank Accounts’ or ‘Payment Methods’ section.
  3. Select ‘Add Credit Card’: If the app supports credit card linking, you will see an option to add a credit card. Select this option.
  4. Enter Details: You will need to enter your credit card number, expiry date, and CVV. Then, proceed to authenticate your card, usually via an OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
  5. Set UPI PIN: Once your card is verified, you might be required to set a UPI PIN for your credit card if it’s your first time linking it to UPI.

After these steps, your credit card will be linked to your UPI ID, and you can start making payments.

  2. Enter Your UPI ID: Input the UPI ID that is linked to your credit card.
