Appleās iPad range of tablets have been an immense success and they continue to be so. According to recent rumours, it is expected that the latest iPad Pros will be launched with an AMOLED screen, and such rumours have also been backed up by the fact that Apple has been in touch with AMOLED screen providing companies.Ā
A new Apple iPad Air could be coming soon!
Apple’s October 2023 event focused solely on new Macs, marking the first year since iPad’s introduction in 2010 by Steve Jobs that Apple went without releasing a new iPad model. Traditionally, new iPad Air models have arrived roughly 18 months apart, and with the 5th generation launching in March 2022, an update is well overdue, and it is expected that this update will arrive during Spring 2024.

There might be good news on the horizon though. Following Apple’s announcement of the M3 MacBook Air in early March, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reaffirmed his previous report suggesting new iPads and an M3 MacBook Air launch by the end of the month, alongside a special build of iOS 17.4. Gurman had also earlier claimed that new iPads were in production for a March release, which only adds to the speculation that the new iPad Air will indeed launch soon.
The update spree is likely to extend beyond the iPad Air. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted in November 2023 that Apple would refresh all four iPad lines ā standard, mini, Air, and Pro ā in 2024. Finally, display industry analyst Ross Young mentioned that the display panel shipments for a new 12.9-inch iPad Air started in December, hinting at a spring release.

A larger iPad Air could be a real possibility
9to5Mac also suggests that there are “multiple new iPads on track for the coming months,” including two new iPad Air models. The report hints that Apple “may be considering introducing a larger version of the iPad Air, or a more expensive model with better specs.” This speculation stems from the existence of two code names associated with the new iPad Air: J507 and J508. Notably, the only other iPad with two code names is the iPad Pro, which also comes in two sizes.
Further, backing the theory of a larger iPad Air is analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s November 2023 claim that the iPad Air line will be split into two sizes: the existing 10.9-inch model and a new 12.9-inch option.Ā
What to expect in the new iPad Air?
Here are some of the things that you can expect on the new iPad Air:
New M2 processor on the iPad Air
The 6th generation of the iPad Air will have a new processor, and that seems to be the obvious choice. The current iPad Air already has the swift M1 processor, which is more than capable of handling the day-to-day tasks that you may put it through. However, the iPad Pro has been sporting the M2 processor for a while now, so the next step is that the Pro variant gets the M3 processor while the Air variant gets upgraded to the M2.
Bigger and better screen
Just like the new rumoured iPad Pro, the new iPad Air is also getting a bigger screen, as per the rumours. In fact, Apple is currently planning to launch a 12.9 inch iPad Air as well, but with different specs as compared to the smaller model.Ā
New colours, same old design
There wonāt be any changes to the overall design of the Apple iPad. The only change that you can expect is different colours, as Apple often does with its products. The leaked renders on the internet show that the new iPad Air will be quite similar to the existing device.Ā
