Do Smartwatches have eSIM? How does eSIM Work in Smartwatches?

Smartwatches are undeniably growing more popular on the market. This is largely due to rising demand for these devices because of recent improvements, such as the convenience that they offer by letting you accept calls without looking down at your phones or getting alerts, among other things. These advances, however, do not stop there, as with the recent introduction of the eSIM smartwatch, several carriers have incorporated this technology into their designs. Do Smartwatches have eSIM?

An eSIM is a virtual or embedded SIM card that, unlike a conventional SIM card, cannot be inserted and removed from any device. It is designed for users who do not wish to use a physical SIM card and devices that do not have a physical slot. It makes it easier for devices to make and receive carrier calls. Furthermore, you can switch network providers at any moment rather than being tied to a single operator.

eSIM smartwatches have a small chip or module implanted inside them. This module contains all the data, such as phone numbers, contacts, calls, and so on. When a person receives an eSIM, the network operator and connection information are synced within the module. Once completed, it may be used in the same way as an actual SIM card, but without the physical presence.

Now that you know about eSIM smartwatches, let’s see a way to activate them. Here is the process of activating on Apple watch-

  • Launch the iPhone Watch app.
  • Begin the Apple Watch and iPhone pairing procedure.
  • Before tapping, read the Terms and Conditions.
  • Submit to continue.
  • To proceed, sign in using your Apple ID and password.
  • Tap “Create a Passcode” to generate a four-digit passcode for your Apple Watch.
  • Tap “Setup Mobile Data” to connect your Airtel Postpaid phone number and plan to Apple Watch
  • Before proceeding, please read the Terms and Conditions
  • Select “Continue” to enable wireless service on your Apple Watch
  • Enter your Airtel Postpaid number as well as your self-care password
  • Examine your plan information and click “Sign Up” to begin the synchronization process
  • When your subscription is complete, tap Close
  • Please allow at least 10 minutes for your Airtel Postpaid number and plan to be shared with your Apple Watch
  • Please wait while your Apple Watch syncs with your iPhone entirely.

*Note: If you are not already registered, click Unable to login to register your phone number.

After you activate the eSIM on your smartwatch, you will be able to make and receive calls, and texts, and access carrier data without the need for a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection.

Furthermore, much like traditional SIM cards, an eSIM may be recharged. The recharge plans are also the same for network carriers all around the world, with a few differences.

How does eSIM work in a Smartwatch?

As with actual SIM cards, smartwatch makers include the same chip within the smartwatch, which can store all the data from numbers, contacts, calls, and more.

All you need to do is call your SIM Card provider and tell them you want to enable eSIM capabilities on your existing SIM Card, and they will replace your existing SIM Card and activate the same number on your smartwatch.

Also, if you want a new eSIM, you must go to a local shop and the SIM Card provider will offer you the option to pick the numbers. Once you have chosen the numbers, they will activate the eSIM on your smartwatch. You can also activate your eSIM through OTP verification-

  • Enter the OTP received on your registered Airtel number.
  • Your Airtel eSIM request has been submitted and is now available for configuration.

How to Get an eSIM for Your Smartwatch

There are many ways to obtain an eSIM for your smartwatch. For example, Airtel allows you to change your old sim card to an eSIM or acquire a new one entirely.

In India, you can acquire a fresh eSIM from Airtel by visiting one of our retail stores or going online. You will be assigned a new phone number with the plan of your choice.

In case of the Apple Watch, you may use the eSIM to replicate your current physical SIM card’s phone number. The eSIM will be linked to the phone number already associated with your iPhone.

How to Check if Your Smartwatch Supports eSIM?

Before purchasing an eSIM for your smartwatch, make sure it is compatible with it. In general, it’s only found on high-end smartwatches with built-in cellular capability. In any case, testing the eSIM capability on your smartwatch is simple.

  • Check the smartwatch box to see whether it mentions cellular network connectivity and the compatible bands.
  • Check the product page on the manufacturer’s website for information on whether an eSIM may be used on the smartwatch.
  • Alternatively, you may search the web for listings, reviews, and other information.
