Here’s how to check NEFT transaction status in 4 different ways

Transferring money online has become so easy these days. Earlier, you had to physically visit a branch to send money or give out cheques to people. But now, with digitization, you can transfer money to anyone from the comfort of your home. Simply use your bank’s official app or website or even a UPI app such as Airtel Thanks for easier transactions.

In India, there are three different ways in which you can transfer money online from one bank to another. These include the National Electronic Fund Transfer aka NEFT, Real Time Gross Settlement, i.e., RTGS and Immediate Payment Services aka IMPS and UPI. However, today, we’ll be talking about NEFT transactions.

What Are NEFT Transactions And How Do They Work?

Started in November 2005, National Electronic Fund Transfer aka NEFT is the fastest  is one of the safest modes of transaction. It has gained wide acceptance and is an excellent replacement for the traditional mode of payments. Moreover, these transactions are free of cost. Also, it should be noted that NEFT transactions can be carried out 24*7 for 365 days a year, with zero charges.

NEFT transaction feature doesn’t have much of a disadvantage. However, there’s one thing – The need to check transaction status after making a transfer via NEFT to ensure that the money has reached the receiver

How To Check NEFT Status Using 4 Different Ways?

Checking your NEFT transaction status has never been easier. All you need is a bank account linked to your mobile phone and email id, and you’re good to go. Even if you don’t have those, you can check NEFT status via reference number or by actually visiting the bank in person. Let’s learn how to check your NEFT transaction status properly:

Via Direct SMS Alerts

Since an NEFT transaction isn’t processed immediately, if linked, the customer gets an SMS on their mobile phone, the minute their receiver gets the money. These SMS alerts are received right from the time you add a beneficiary to make an NEFT transaction to the time when the money is successfully transferred.

Through Email Notifications

Similar to a linked mobile number, if you have your email id linked to your bank account when the recipient receives the money you will get notified through your email as well. So, check your email to see whether your transaction has gone through.

In both these methods, you didn’t have to manually do much. All you had to do was check your mobile phone for an SMS or your email id for an alert. However, if you still didn’t get an intimation on the current status of your NEFT transaction, try the other two methods.

Via CFC With Reference Number

If you’re wondering how to check NEFT transaction status with reference number, we’re here to help you. The Unique Transaction Reference number (UTR) aka the Reference Number can be found here.

Either directly on the screen after your transaction is completed.

In the detailed bank statement, under the ‘online banking’ section.

Now to check NEFT transaction details, you will have to contact the NEFT Customer Facilitation Centre (CFC) of your respective bank. You can find these details on your banking websites. Now, provide them with your UTR (Unique Transfer Reference) Number, date of transaction, name of Bank, etc and get the update on your transaction’s current status.

Through A Physical Bank Visit

If you didn’t get any alerts even after 2 hours of completing the transaction, it’s time to visit your bank. Provide the executive there with all the transaction details. Including your UTR (Unique Transfer Reference) Number, date of transaction, etc. They’ll immediately inform you about the status of your transaction.

Better Alternative To NEFT transactions

While you can easily check NEFT transaction status through the aforementioned ways, a better way to make online transactions would be via a UPI app. Not only is it extremely convenient and easy, but it helps make instant transactions. This means no more waiting for 2 hours to see whether your transaction has gone through or not.
