FASTag is an NETC (National Electronic Toll Collection) initiative. It was introduced by the Government of India to facilitate faster movement of traffic on highways, for the people. Thanks to the guidelines by NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) and IHMCL (Indian Highways Management Company Limited), FASTag has been a great success. Already installed at over 400 toll plazas across National and State Highways, FASTag contributes to saving fuel consumption and facilitating seamless toll payment. Before understanding how to do a FASTag recharge each month, let’s understand how exactly it works.
How FASTag works and how can we do a FASTag recharge?
The introduction of FASTag is aligned with the cashless revolution. The toll tax collection booths needed to be digitized in this transforming world. Also, any delay incurred during transportation actually results in loss of the profits.
In addition, perishable and essential goods being transported are the worst hit due to this problem. Therefore, it is important to reduce the inter-city travel time as much as possible by introducing FASTag on each state and national highway. The tag works using the technology of RFID. Basically, person can buy FASTag from offline booths placed near tolls/banks/apps, such as Airtel and Paytm. The tag will be linked to your vehicle using the RC number of your personal or commercial vehicle.
Therefore, it is important for you to furnish the said document at the time of registration. You can easily use the Airtel Thanks app to register for a FASTag and complete a FASTag recharge as and when needed within a couple of minutes.
Post-registration steps to use FASTag
You need to put the tag on the windshield of the car after the registration. You don’t need to stop your vehicle for the manual payment of the toll charges. The tag will get automatically get scanned by the scanners at the toll booth. Now another thing to keep in mind for you is that the tag has to be linked to a prepaid account. The easiest way is to link your tag with Airtel Thanks Wallet. Maintain a good sum of balance in the account.
Once the tag is scanned while crossing the toll booth, the calculated money according to your vehicle type will be deducted automatically from your linked account, by the software. Isn’t that convenient?
You don’t need to keep the exact change or wait in hours of queue just to pass a toll booth. Just take the FASTag lane and complete your FASTag recharge and glide through the lane easily.
How can you do a FASTag recharge?
The easiest way to recharge your FASTag account is by using the Airtel Thanks app.
Step 1
Head to Google Play store or iOS store and download the Airtel Thanks app. Non Airtel users can use this app as well.
Step 2
Register your mobile number with the application to activate your membership with the application.
Step 3
You will see several services available on the landing page of the app. Scroll through and explore. You will find a tab named NETC FASTag. Please tap on the same icon.
Step 4
If you haven’t already registered with FASTag, you will get the option to buy one. You need to upload your RC documents here.
Step 5
Find the tab named Banking on the bottom. Click on it. Here, you need to link your active bank account with the application.
Step 6
You will see a section showing the wallet balance right on the top after linking the bank account. Click on the option called Add Money. Here, you need to add money from your linked account to your Airtel Wallet. Add a considerable amount of money keeping your expenses in mind.
You can do the FASTag recharge every month or as and when needed using the FASTag section in your Airtel thanks app. The amount can be easily deducted from the the wallet.
As a first-time user, you will have to follow the steps right from the start. You can add money to your wallet from your linked account. You can also link the app with any other UPI apps, credit/ debit cards, etc.
